Set in Penang, Pigeon focused on the warm kinship between a Malaysian care worker and an elderly Japanese man suffering from dementia. Beyond the Bridge chronicles the doomed romance of a Japanese-Cambodian couple amidst a backdrop of civil war and reconstruction.
